tmerideth Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Just rebuilt a 10 HP K241 in an AC 710 for a friend. Everything went fine, but the engine now has a slight seepage around the governor shaft. I did not remove the governor mechanism during the rebuild. The manual I have doesn't show a clear shot of the shaft as it goes through the block. Any ideas on what to look for to fix this?
patrician12 Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 That's some design Kohler has!The shaft wears out the block.I take off the governor lever and place 2 o rings that fit snugly on the shaft and then reinstall the lever pushing down on and pulling up on the shaft until the lever fits tightly sitting on the o rings and then tighthen the nut. This works for me.
tmerideth Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 Dang Maynard, now I wonder how I did that? :D I guess that's why you make the big bucks around here. :) However I can't help but wonder if the o-ring idea might be a better suggestion. Thanks guys.
maxtorman1234 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Its a bushing. The shaft does not "wear out the block". Definition of Bushing: metal sleeve: a cylindrical metal sleeve used to prevent abrasion, as a bearing, or as a guide for tool parts such as valve rods. Prevents it from "wearing out the block" Cheap to replace, just throw a new one in, no problem.
