Is a Fuel Pump necessary?

Since the fuel tank on the large frame garden tractors are mounted high, is there any reason for a fuel pump? I'm referring to the Kohler K301S in my 7012H.

Hi, Since the Kohler has the carb mounted high compared to the Briggs with the drop manifold, when you go up hill with the tank low there is wery little pressure to fill the carb. You could do like the old model T Fords, turn around and back up the hills. Anyway the pump is a necessary item for all around functionality. Al
