bigkenroberts Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 There is a picture of a 17 GTH-L in this post "17GTH-L Finally got it home" down below. Is the front frame a wrap-around solid piece like on my 716H or is this an (engineered ?) bolt-together composite like in the dime-store tractors. Or is the big piece on the front a "bumper" over top of the wrap around. I like the solid piece wrap-around. Maybe over-engineered, but it is solid and handles a johnny-bucket real well.
bigkenroberts Posted June 27, 2006 Author Posted June 27, 2006 OK - no responses. I'll drive down tomorrow and check it out myself. Or can anyone direct me to a close-up front frame picture to save me 30 miles each way.
biggie_rat Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Same as your 716, they did make the newer frames 'not as thick' in that area. B.R.
bigkenroberts Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 Thanx Ron. Yea - the newer frames are "engineered" and have varying thickness and heights along the side to match calculated stresses. This means that they are also bolt-together because the pieces are different. I didn't know when they made the change-over in the Soverign (GTH - now Legacy I think) series. Thanx again.
biggie_rat Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I found this pic of what is supposed to be a on ebay, of a GTH-L and (if it is truely a GTH-L), this is basically the same as what you have. I'm just saying the frame is the same as what you have, but the thickness of the steel plate on some of the earlier models from the rear of the engine (eyeballing for comparison) was 1/4" plate on the earlier models. Somewhere along the line (around 1978-80) the plate they used was 3/16" or a little smaller gauge. Anyway you look at it, if the tractor looks like the one in the pic or has the same, basic frame design, it is in the same frame family as your 716, not one of the cheap tractor with stamped metal frames.
