I have a 712s. The shuttle clutch is getting very noisy and gets very hot.I greased it a few years ago. The tractor sat for a long time with occasional use. I am now using it all the time. This is a great tractor and would like to keep it going. Any thoughts? Thanks

Is it noisy in forward and in reverse?

Jim, welcome to the club. First thing I would do with it being a shuttle is to download all the pertinent repair/owners manuals for the tractor and give it a good servicing and following the manuals closely, adjust the shuttle drive . These tractors do wear more due to all the extra moving parts. Then after this run it some and see where you are.

Its noisy in reverse. I have the info on adjusting the shuttle,(thats saturdays project). Its also not getting full power in reverse now. Ill post tomarrow after adjustment. My old Yeoman popped a valve seat so I gotta get this thing working good. Will a hydro tranny swap into this chassis?? Thanks. Great site!!!!

Yes, a hydro will swap in. That's the truthfull answer. Now the hard part. You may use a lot of the same holes for levers and such but to try to buy only what you need for the swap may prove to be more expensive than just buying a secound tractor. If I were going to attempt something like this I'd find a donor tractor with say a blown engine or ragged sheet metal with a hydro and then you'd have everything you need and the pattern to follow. I'll add also that the bearings in the reverse planetary on a shuttle are somewhat of a week point on these shuttles and will show up by becomeing floppy on the end of the shaft inside the reverse band. This renders the reverse somewhat out of adjustment as you have to tighten the band to compensate for the bad bearings and floppyness. There may be all kinds of possible problems contributing to some type of noise but by following the adjustment guide and looking for the obvious you should be able to narrow down the problems. Even if you have potentially catostrofic problems that may lead to the death of the tranny you might be able to adjust some problems out long enough to get some more use out of the tractor before it completely gives up.Then again it may be in rather good shape and just need a few adjustments and a belt.

Dave, Thank you for the reply. You awnsered one of my questions. I adjusted and lubed everything up and it works much better and quieter. The planetary is loose. It still gets very hot after 45min of mowing. Ill keep'er going untill I find a donor hydro and a 48" deck.
