ZippoVarga Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Got it's decals yesterday. Took me a while to find a diamond plate tape to get the letters cut from but here she is!!! the first time I posted pics of the Blue Diamond it was suggested that I put Chrome rims on it. Well....after the sticker shock I found a set of Hubcaps in Lieu of chrome rims. Here are my Daughters enjoying the Blue Diamond with her new hubcaps. Enjoy!! lboy1971 Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Looks very nice. But the question I have is why? I've had a couple of those riders and they weren't very good.
ZippoVarga Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 The why is a long list.... 1. Free tractor 2. Eldest daughter claimed it as hers. 3. Eldest daughter came up with the idea to customize it. 4. Father likes to keep daughters happy. 5. It was an expendable tractor to chop up, stretch, lower etc. 6. Why Not? Hope this clears up any confusion as to why. Besides it being a very fun project, it keeps my daughters happy to have riders of their own....especially one's they've taken part in designing. There is also a pull behind cart in the works that will have a beverage coler and an AM FM CD player in it. Why? Because.........you guessed it.....my daughters asked me to do it. As for it not being a good tractor, you are exactly correct. It was a JC Penney catalog order 8hp Penncraft made by MTD in 1970. Not worth restoring, but in decent enough shape to keep around. Here's a pic of it before it's transformation. An improvement from stock any way you look at it. 2.5 inches lower, 4 inches longer, made with loving care for my little girls. ;):)^
RHA Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 If that tractor looked that good new, they might have sold more of them!8D
ZippoVarga Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 Thanks John and RHA. It's been a fun project. Even though it was basically finished in 8 days I still find my self coming up with ideas for it. Just hope I don't keep going till I have a clown mobile. Sean
JoeJ Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Zippo, As one that appreciates all colors, I think you did one very nice job!! But the big + on this one is the daughter factor;). That makes that little tractor priceless:D.
ZippoVarga Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 Joe, so far i have refused 700 dollars for that little dime store dispseable tractor.
ZippoVarga Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 If it were mine, it would have been sold long ago.
PhanDad Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Nice work. You had the best reason in the world to restore/customize it. Enjoy the kids while you can; they grow up too fast.
FastPaul Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Looks really nice with the Simplicity Style stipe on the hood!! Nice Work;)
ZippoVarga Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 Paul, thanks for the compliment. Your Fire Breathing Broadmoor looks fantastic. Your kids are following well in your footsteps. Sean
JP Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Sean, Looks Fantastic! I think you refurbed it for exactly the RIGHT reasons! JP
ZippoVarga Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 Thanks JP!! Kids cant wait for me to finish the trailer to go with it. Sean
AGCO918 Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Tractor turned out very nice.Nice to see kids take a interest in them.
tractormike Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Good job on that cool looking tractor. As to the "why" question my answer has been " because I can". When you are doing things with your kids and teaching them things that time is priceless. Your kids will always remember those times. I can see another custom tractor in the works so each daughter can have her own tractor. What better reason to find another tractor! Keep up the good work!
Tasbrus Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Your daughter will have lifelong memories of this project. Nice job.
ZippoVarga Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Chad, Mike and Steve, I know from my own experiences that I remember my Father best when I was helping him with something. Thanks all for the nice compliments. A second tractor will come after the pull behind trailer. My youngest was the one who suggested a trailer to pull behind the Blue Diamond. I'm sure once that's done and the current projects are finished they will both come up wuth something else. They had me make them a boom box with a bunch of buttons bells and whistles last winter and they have more fun with that then if I had just gotten them a radio. Again, thanks for all the kind words!!! Sean aka Daddy
Ketchamized Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Sean, That looks great for a rattle can job. :) Just an idea that might appeal to your daughter- at autozone or pepboys, for something like 10 bucks, 12 bucks, you could buy a 12 volt blue neon light. Perhaps you could mount one on the underside of the hood, so the whole engine compartment lights up neon blue- maybe add chrome paint to some compotents in the engine. Maybe a second blue neon light on the bottom of the tractor somewhere. The neon light should work well since you've gotten rid of the headlights... Just an idea. :) Erick
Ketchamized Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Sean, That gave me some inspiration... My son is still a baby, but when the time comes for us to do a father/son project, that'd be a great project. :)
ZippoVarga Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Erick, My youngest daughter is already one step ahead of both of us. I have some blue LED lights that she wants put on the tractor along with a couple black light tubes on the bottom. This particular tractor never had electric or lights. But with a pig tail from the trailer I will be able to work off the deep cycle battery to power up the lights. I agree with the lights!! They will really set off the tractor at night. We already tried one of those valve stem lights, but the wheels don't turn fast enough. I would have to rig them to stay on. Just a matter of breaching the little compression spring. The girls and I were at Wally World the other day picking up fabric for pajamas and we found a vinyl that will make nice cushions for the seat. When I start that little project i'll post in process pics. This will be my first attempt so it should prove interesting. Thanks again every one for the interest in my daughters little play toy. Sean aka Daddy
skot71 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 This tractor is way beyond cool. I was privileged enough to be able to sit on it this evening. I'm used to my B-208. I had my legs almost all the way stretched out to reach the pedals! Great job on this tractor for a great reason. Thanks for sharing it Sean!
ZippoVarga Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Skot, Pleasure was mine having you here to chat with for a while. Stop by any time!! Sean
