Sunstar 60" Deck

I have a Sunstar(#1691381) with a 60" (#1691339) Deck. It needs a new housing and some other parts which are available from Simplicity. When I was dismantling the deck for overhaul, I noticed that there was excessive backlash in the gearbox. It is a #1674213 (Durst). The gear set is not available from Simplicity (or Durst). They recommend a complete replacement gearbox (#1717069). It is expensive. Any suggestions?

I see that a new one cost $350.00 at Jack`s. Are the gears worn out or can the backlash be corrected by getting new bearings? Bearings should be attainable at a bearing supply house. the part number 1674213 is 178.00 at jack`s half the price as the other part number that you listed. http://www.jackssmallengines.com/searchdb.cfm

Thanks for the reply. - I mistakenly posted the wrong part # for the Durst Gearbox. I said it was a 1674213, it really is 1674642. I'll check the bearing (or bearing shim) availability per your suggestion.
