bsggsb Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I have a Simplicity 7014S that has just developed a weird problem. I cannot shift it into 4th gear. I can shift it into any other gear but it will only move normally in 2nd gear. In 1st and 3rd gears it actually stops the belts but never moves. Any ideas where to start or what to think? ? Thanks Brian
Paul Morrissey Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Brian If the tractor drives when the lever is in neutral, the trans is stuck in 2nd gear. Shifting into 1st or 3rd will then put you into two gears and it will not move. You'll have to take out the top fill plug in the trans to move the 2nd gear back into place. Use the trusty bent screwdriver. Shift in a true "H" pattern and you will not have this problem. Paul
bsggsb Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 The tractor doesn't act like it is stuck in gear. It must be in the middle of the "H" to start tractor and you can actually shift into all gears. The tractor will only move if in 2nd gear though. The `hydro` lever words correctly and the tractor does not move if it is centered. It must be something internal :(
IronPony Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Try this thread for more info on how the shift forks work and how to access them without taking it all apart. Since you do not have a "hydro" but a shuttle transmission, I think your problem is with the shift forks. http://simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=11847&SearchTerms=bent,screwdriver Good Luck! MikeES Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Keep in mind with the shuttle shift. The neutral with the "lever" and forward and reverse are all happening outside the transmission. Your "start" safety switch (middle of the 'H') is also outside the transmission. Only the the different gears (speeds) are happening inside the transmission. So yes it is something internal.
bsggsb Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Ok, Here is what I DO know.... The transmission is stuck in 2nd gear. I know that because the shifting lever very easily falls into that gear. It will also though shift into 1st and 3rd. They clunk like what I consider normal. It will not shift into 4th. I therefore assume 2nd and 4th are linked on the same shifing fork. This is what I DON'T know.... I bent a file with about a 2" 90 degree bend like I've read. I do not however know what to do to fix the problem. I took out the fill plug but with the drive pulleys where they are for the shuttle you have very little room to get into the hole. I do not know what to do after I am in there. Help please.
Roy Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 You may have to remove the drive pulleys from the transmission input shaft to be able to access the fill plug for the screwdriver trick. Good luck.
IronPony Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Here is another thread with pictures of what the shift forks look like. This may help when you reach in with the "bent screwdriver" to move them. http://simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=12052
bsggsb Posted July 18, 2006 Author Posted July 18, 2006 Dan, I take it you finally got yours or did you end up taking it apart? I think from I what read, since I think I am stuck in 2nd gear of a 4 speed, I need to push the fork away from the oil fill hole as the shifting position for 2nd gear is on the opposite side of the filler hole. Does this sound right????
IronPony Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Yes, I did get mine corrected without taking it apart. I also found that if I put the directional lever (some call hydro lever) in neutral and do NOT depress the clutch, I can shift into any gear with little effort. I shift slowly and have not had the same problem repeat itself. I am not sure which way to push/pull the forks, but, you will feel it "give" when it goes back in to proper alignment. Good Luck! bsggsb Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 I have tried and tried. I cannot get this to work....could someone please post a pic of the screwdriver w/the correct bend? I am stuck in 2nd gear so I'm sure I need to push the fork but I need some help with where or how deep or how far behind or ahead of plug....etc. Thanks....
