msiebern Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Has anyone changed the bearing in the cone clutch pulley on a 71XX series? There is a lot of slop in mine and it allows the pulley to become misaligned and is tearing up the clutch plates. I have tried just about everything short of pressing or driving it out and don't want to damage the pulley by doing something stupid. Any advice would be appreciated!
Paul Morrissey Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Mike - Take the next step. Press it out. No clip of snap ring, just push. The new bearing is Simp # 1650254 Paul
UCD Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 There is an eccentric locking groove on it and it has to be turned to loosen it.
msiebern Posted July 16, 2006 Author Posted July 16, 2006 Thanks to both of you for your comments. I examined the assembly closely and could find no way to turn it. The only area to get a grip was the bearing extension so it would just turn inside the bearings. So with a brass driver and a hammer, a few light taps and it was out! Thanks again for the input.
PeppyDan Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Don't forget to check the shaft for wear. I recently had one that I thought was bearing wear and it ended up having shaft wear also. The bearing was seizing up on the shaft and that's what caused the shaft wear. Dan
