callwill Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Looking for newer & a little bigger. Friend is thinking about selling his 18hp Case ingersoll. That would mean i could reclaim a lot of space by letting go of the B10 & the 3112V and the assortment of parts & attachments(2 snowblowers, 1 good & parts mower deck, a dozer blade, 2 sets of tire chains, extra front wheels, extra starter, carb other boxes of used parts, belts etc. etc.) I'll still have the 3212h and it's stuff as a backup-and as a reason to stay in the club!
maxtorman1234 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 The only complaint i have about my case 222 is the hydraulic drive control is really touchy, and high range is too high, and low is too slow. I dont know how different the tractor you are looking at is, but i know they dont cut anywhere as nice as an allis, other than that theyre pretty nice tractors. Im going to sell my case 222 and maybe look for a nice 195 to restore.
Tom_Byrne Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 MY TWO CENTS: I have heard both good and bad about Case-Ingersoll tractors- Never owned one myself, so I can't really judge them. I can say this: I owned a 1966 Broadmoor, all orginal, that I gave to a buddy who still cuts with it regularly. I own a 1967 2010, all orginal, that will run circles around any newer machine out there. Not a lot of newer machines around anymore, but the old Simplicity/ Allis tractors are usually still going strong.
Marty-MN Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 The only one I know who has Case is a Case collector and he goes a long way to get his parts.
dlcentral Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Ive had a few, pass thru here on the way to somewhere else!,,, I agree with max, hydro needs re-engineering plus they tend to ''run away'' when going downhills when fluids are hot.cases fix,,is to jam it in reverse! imagine the lawsuits they must have had on this prob!,,
SmilinSam Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I've got a Case 220 I use for trailering yard material and trash cans. I dont mind the way they mow, but you wont like them compared to your Simplicity products for the reasons already stated above. They do look impressive but functionality is not so impressive when it comes to mowing grass. The new residential modle 318 is a true hydrostat and those are a nice machine to mow and blow snow with. I have used one once and had Ingersol had the financing I would be using one right now instead of one of the Conquests. But the hydraulic drive units are frustrating due to low to slow and high too fast combined with the runaway problem going down hills especially in high.
maxtorman1234 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Like mentioned above, the runaway problem on hills can be dangerous, i sure was surprised the first time i drove my 222. I know they have installed a flow restrictor on the return line in newer models, to give the system some back pressure to prevent it from running away, if it does'nt have it, as long as you're careful you can go down the hill with the controls slightly in reverse:) Also, you cant even climb a hill in high range.
MikeES Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I Believe the 222 is the same as the 444 (except for wheel size). The engine is in backwards and it blows all the hot air back towards the operator. The neighbor had one and you had to careful not to burn your self on the dash and footrest sheet metal. Nice for snowblowing...miserable for mowing.
callwill Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Yikes on the hill problem, & thanks for the feedback...i think his is an '86 & was his fathers 4018(2cyl onan) model-When his father bought a new one he got this one...now he needs to move & will need something even bigger for landscape work. I do need to worry about the hill, my house is built on/in a hillside.
ZippoVarga Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Looks to me like the bottom line is, it has more problems than heinz has pickles and to stick with your A/C and Simps. IMHO

Our house is also partially in a small hill, and the case sure is tricky to get around the trees, i much prefer the cub cadet 127 i just picked up:)It seems to have a nicer linkage and transmission setup than the A/C's, but the deck is terrible. I only want to get a case 195 because they look neat, and would be a nice tractor to restore. I think I'll stick to mowing with my 716H
jdm Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I guess it's been mostly said. I don't much disagree with anything. I have a Case/Ingersoll 444. It does not run away on hills. Must be a later model. It is built well and tough. I call it my barnyard mower. I use it where I might not like to take anything else. It will bake you. The steering is hard. For some reason I still like it.
