Tractomatic 6216 16HP Briggs Twin Prob

Went to mow the lawn before vaca and had some malfunctions. Started right up, electric deck would not engage (go down). While fiddling with the toggle switch the engine dies. Come home from vaca and begin to investigate. Spark weak so removed cover cleaned up flywheel contact and magneto. Now good spark. The key switch is functioning intermittently and cannot get the neutral safety light to come on. It is not a bad bulb. Changed bulb, no luck. Change the switch same prob. Change the wiring harness from the switch to the plug - solves the intermittent problem and fixes the electric lift problem. Change the neutral safety light fixture - problem solved. Figure good, was some kind of short somewhere in the harness. However, still not starting/firing. Gas to carb, spark plugs cleaned and has compression. Circumvent safety switch for neutral under seat. Headlights still not working (had worked in past just before problem). No power going to headlights, don't know why. Disconnect headlights hoping this will alleviate a possible grounding. No luck still. What to do next? I'm running low on ideas other than have someone who knows more than me take a look at it. Oh yeah, the tires are all holding air... :o):-) Thanks in advance.

What about PTO handle in neutral circuit. Make sure that that's closing.

Ground to frame or engine corroded, check this first!

I'll check into the PTO circuit. The ground is solid/not corroded. Thanks guys, I'll get another look at it tomorrow and report back.

Still not figured this thing out. Removed the ground wire from the coil that shuts the engine down thinking this would circumvent all safety switch issues. Still not running or even firing. I'll have someone with more experience than me take a peek at it. Currently I'm mowing the lawn with a 1969 Panzer :)

Coil was the culprit. Back in business now.
