SmilinSam Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Created a dedicated yard trailering tractor outfit here. I intend this be the last tractor restoration job and complete paint job. No interest in it and have no need of more tractors. Always wanted to do a Case and when this fell in my lap due to some trading I just used up what loose parts were left laying around here to do the job. I swapped out the junk 10 hp and put in an 8hp, the one I put rings in with advice. from guys here.. Made some adaptor plates to raise the engin up and mount it to the pump housing. Had to convert a oold aftermarket car steering wheel to use on it to replace the original broken one. Has a thick foam rubber ring with three metal spokes and I just welded a weld a hub pulley hub into the center to mate it up to the keyed shaft on the steering column. Had to build a brake for it as somehwere before I got it someone removed the whole brake assembly. Manufactured a custom muffler setup with the help of a Bradmoor rear weight bracket. This thing is actualy pretty quiet all in all. Got new rear ag treads on order for it. Will be pulling heavy loads of firewood in the trailer and need some traction8D Theres no PTO on it anymore since I put the 8 hp in it . Wouldnt be enough power to do anything anyhow with a mower or blower. I may rig up a Brinley hitch for it and a front blade eventually, but for now its just destined to haul things around the property. Last detail needing attention is a set of replacememnt headlights. One I have is good , but is missing the clamps. The other has the glass broke in it and is also missing the clamps. Right now I'm pusuing recovering the lights from a Bolens G series tractor I gave to a guy who wanted the engine in it. Those headlights in the G series are the same as are the ones in the later 7000 series Simplicity tractors and 4000 series Simplicity Lawn Tractors. If the Bolens attemp does not work out I may have to hunt some down out of a Simplicity.;)
AGCO918 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Sam , The tractor looks Great.I have always liked the Case Garden tractors as i rememember them at the fair as a Kid.
lboy1971 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Looks good. I know the Case/Ingersols get bad publicity about the run away problems with the hydraulic drive but I've found them to be quite nible tractors to drive. I have mostly flat ground so don't have the run away worries some do.
bkassulke Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 casegardentractors.com has some replacement front lights for tractors of this size. they also have the clips to secure the good one. off hand I have no idea what they cost. Benjamin
ZippoVarga Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Sam, looks GREAT!! I've never thought much about the Case garden variety mainly because there are very few in this area. That one looks like it will give years of hauling service. Sean
SmilinSam Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Just for fun, anyone want to guess at the weight of the empty yard cart behind it?:D
SmilinSam Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Its made out of 1/8" and 3/16" plate steel welded at all the seams with heavy angle iron bracing underneath. I can throw chunks of firewood into it from 6' away without worrying about banging it up. problem is its all I can do to lift one side up off the ground to prop it up on a bucket to change the tire. Funnier yet, is the axle on one side broke after delivering the garbage cans to the end of the lane last week. I had to drag it back to the shop 400' away on the gravel. The governor never let up all the way back while pulling it.
Kent Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 quote:Originally posted by SmilinSam I intend this be the last tractor restoration job and complete paint job. No interest in it and have no need of more tractors. No! No! No! After such great jobs as the HB-116, we can't let you end it with a Case instead of a Simplicity-built machine... It needs to be at least a rare Homey or something like that! BTW, great job on the Case. My neighbor has an Ingersoll 446. It's a good, big machine...
Ronald Hribar Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 425 pounds Sam I take it to mean that instead of doing it for yourself, You will now start painting and restoring for other people. Another sideline Will your boys be doing all the restoring now?

Yes!:D Besides....it is orange;) Its kinda a FDT 8) and I did infuse some Simplicity parts into the repair job8D Thats got to count for something?:o) Besides, the kids do ten times better at painting than I do.
SmilinSam Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Jovee is pretty close with his guess of 300 lbs. I manages to tip this thing up on the fairbanks morse platform store scale I have that measures to 1000 lbs with an accuracy of within 1-2 lbs Weight is 313 lbs empty[:0] No wonder I can hardly lift it! It does roll and balance well though. Whoever built it did a fairly good job on it.
tractormike Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Your last restore and paint job? Maybe for this year but Sam I'll bet there is another tractor just waiting in the weeds someplace for you to work some magic on.

Maybe for this year but Sam I'll bet there is another tractor just waiting in the weeds someplace for you to work some magic on. Seriously, I'm leaving the retore jobs to the kids.I've done 40 - 50 paint jobs and most of them involved disassembly of the tractor. Had my fun with it. Funs over now. Time to play with the stuff rather than work on it all the time. One has to know when to quit, and the best time to quit is while there is still yet a small ray of enjoyment shining through. Might work on building attachments for the tractors I use . I have fun at that. I'll also still part out and sell stuff but I think it will be in a more relaxed manner. the only tractor that I would yet have use for would be a late 90's Landlord DLX if i ever found one with a blown engine cheap. Wouldnt mind having a dedicated Snowplow tractor like Maynrd has and end the hassle of putting on and taking off the cab every year.
MPH Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Nice job Sam on the Case. Hope to someday find a Case 180 for my collection,
Tom_Byrne Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 quote:My Last Paint Job and Restore Job AAHHH, Famous Last Words!;):D I said the same thing when I finished my 2010 and sold off my Cub and 7016 projects to move to the new house. I already had an late 60's Sears and Ford 100 wander in. Both interested me because I never worked on these kind of tractors and you don't see them around much, at least by me. Great job on the Case!
