B.Ikard Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Last question guys, The same guy I got my 23D from has a very good condition, lo hour S14D-14hp Wisconsin complete with starter generator. I gather Wisconsin engines were top quality but seem to be a white elephant for parts-still I like the oddball qualities a little. Not really a candidate for a Simplicity, mabye an air compressor project. The price is not really dirt cheap but not really a bad deal either. Am I setting myself up for failure when I need parts?? Any comments or experiences would be appreciated, Brent
lboy1971 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Luckily I've not had to buy any parts for my Wisconsin engines in my Bolens tractors so can't comment on that part of your question. I've had decent luck with the engines though.
dirtsaver Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Brent there are very few outlets for parts for those old boatanchors. They are great engines and real workhorses but once you get past things like tuneup parts you're going to have a heck of a challenge finding parts. If it were mine, I'd keep it on a shelf in the shop and take it to shows. The old engines like that are really becoming neat displays lately.
328 Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I just bought a coil and points for a s12d. About $140.00 retail total. Look at pitt auto electric or Wilder Motor.com.
B.Ikard Posted July 15, 2006 Author Posted July 15, 2006 Well I may regret it but I brought it home...the seller is a long time Wisconsin dealer and I did a little research and found a few parts sources. It is considerably heavier than a briggs or kohler but similar sized. Might be interesting on my 914 project-intake and exhaust are opposite side of briggs and kohler. I need to tap some holes for the drive coupling in the flywheel.... Brent
