B-112 starter generator- Update, Help

UPdate I removed the belt and the generator, something is locking up in the generator which is causing the hard to turn condition. Anyone ever pulled one apart or have some insight, it gets so turning it is real difficult but then if you work it with a cresent wrench it will free up. Is this a lost cause or does someone have some insight? Thanks for all the responses and help.

probably a shot bearing. There have been discussions about this. Do a search. There is also a thread in tech tips here: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22211

Not sure about the bearing as I can get it to move freely, is there some sort of gear that moves the shaft?

My first thought would be a seized bearing or one going bad. Beyond that maybe a portion of one of the brushes has come off or some other foreign matter has gotten into the armature. So far, neither of my starter/generators has given me any trouble, so I haven't actually torn one down for a rebuild.

just got it apart, there is a spring loaded pressure tab that puts pressure on the brushes, the spring had broke on one of them and had to modify it to get spring tension on it. plus there was debris in the inside which was probably causing the binding. I am going to put it back together and try it. this could be why it was intermittent.

thought I had if fixed took it down the street to the local autoelectric they pulled it apart and said it needed a rebuild, they had a rebuilt one on the shelf, $98 and I am back up and running.
