There was a discussion a while back on the Diesel frame. Does anyone know what it was about? I seem to remember that there was a difference length by rear wheels. Reason I ask is there is a 7790 frame on EBay that maybe of use for a future project

I beleve the differences are in the sides of the frame for engine clearance and in the hole locations, where the engine mounts to.

Was thinking there was more space between BFG and rear tires. But must have been thinking about something else. Thanks UCD for diagrams.

The one diesel that I am familar with had a longer rear axle than the gas tractors (wider rear stance). I have never check part numbers to confirm this but it had about a 3" wider stance with the same wheels as the 917.

Mike you are correct, I have checked part numbers on this, and I measured 2.5" greater... http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=61018 I don't know why though.

Now I wish I had bought the rear end from that series. Would have given me more tire clearance. Thanks for the information

Ron, just get a couple wheels with the mounting face closer to the inside of the tire (less backspacing). 26x12x12 turf tires on my 713S. Plenty of clearance on the stock shuttle tranny.

Sorry, Ron, but I don't have a contact for new wheels. Most of the tractors use the same bolt pattern on the wheels. I think these wheels in the picture were originally from a Cub Cadet. They have been modified to make them 12 inches wide for mounting 12 inch tires. I just used them as an example since all the widening was done on the outside. I pick up any rear wheels that I can find cheap. I have several sets of wheels with different backspacing. Most of them are narrow, but the backspacing is the only critical part if you plan on widening the wheels. I, myself, have widened two sets. One set is 10.5 wide and the other set is 12 wide. I traded for the wheels shown in the picture from a friend.

I did not make myself clear. I do have a telephone number for someone to make correct width rims and with the correct offset to clear center pto clutch. I could do it myself if I could get the steel rolled to proper diameter. Then I would have no excuse for not loading tires either

For the first ones I went to a local machine shop. They sheared the steel plate and rolled it for $40. I cut the steel for the second set, and slipped them into the shop at work to get them rolled. The wheels I have welded up were done with overlap welds. I cut the band so that I could slip the two rim pieces inside it. I then put all the weld in the portion of the wheel that would end up inside the tire. Doesn't look quite as good as a butt weld, but much easier to do. Still there is nearly 5 feet of weld on a single wheel. Takes quite a bit of time to make the wide wheels. I used a wooden gage to set the spacing between the two pieces of the wheel during tacking of the parts. I made a set of two screw clamps to pull the band tight against the wheel during tacking. Got several large screw clamps and put them together to make the really large clamps. Sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you were asking me if I had a number. My mistake.
