A question for the guys with sickle bars. How well do they work? I have about 3+ acres of field that gets mowed about twice a year. Im mowing with a cub lo boy with a mott flail mower that is going to need some expensive parts soon. Will a 712 or a B series with a bar handle it? Im trying to get rid of some equipment and have 1 or 2 good tractors.

Most sicklebar mowers that you will find for sale will work on the B and not on the 712. There were quite a few of these made and sold, and there are usually quite a few showing up on ebay. Any of the tractors with a cone clutch type mid PTO like the 712, will require a sicklebar mower with a planetary gear reduction unit on it to slow down the speed. These were made and sold, but there are very few of them on the market.

Im thinking of finding an old B to restore along with a bar and a loader(or make a loader). The main thing is the sickle bar but the loader would be handy. Just doing a bit of research on it first. Does the bar for the B series have a gear reduction? Are replacement knives still available? Thank you in advance for the info. This is a great site.
