maxtorman1234 Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I Got the 20HP block back from the machinist the other day, freshly bored 0.030" over. The block was sitting with the heads off, so it rusted and pitted the cylinders, now most of the pitting is gone, just some marks left, im not going to worry about it though. I Bought new pistons, rods and a gasket set. New pistons and rods are in, just waiting for the closure plate so i can torque the rods. I threw 2 new intake valves in just because i have them, now I just need to lap valves and finish reassembling when i get the other parts back from being glass beaded. Should be running in no time. maxtorman1234 Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 THanks, If all goes well it should be done by this weekend, then i just need something to mount it in to start it.:(! I should get started on the frame soon, i'll have to see how things work out,
maxtorman1234 Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Well, i got the parts back a while ago, but havent been working on the engine, seeing that it was 114 degrees outside yesterday, and 95 in the garage. Started sweating as soon as i stepped outside yesterday. So I took it down to the basement where its 70 degrees:). I have some tools in the basement but most parts and tools are still outside. I got the engine timed, valves adjusted and a few parts painted. All I want to do now is get all the sheetmetal sandblasted, then i'll be pretty much ready to reassemble the whole thing.
richp Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 114 degrees in Canada? WoW, I thought CT had it bad at 100.
D-17_Dave Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 114 up there Graham? That would help with the paint drying part of the rebuild.lol
gregc Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 114°...hmm... How much is that in the US? Is the exchange rate for degrees the same as with the money? ;):D
maxtorman1234 Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Its ugly, but all mechanical parts are well within specs. Im going to throw the old parts on, and when we get a compressor to run the sandblaster i'll take the stuff off and clean it up. maxtorman1234 Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 I bolted it on the ford to start it, Fired right up but takes alot of power to turn it over. It runs excellent, im very impressed. It sounds just like i was hoping it would:D. No way to actually drive it around, but it sure sounds powerful. It has 50PSI oil pressure at 2800 rpm. Runs real smooth, fairly quiet, weighs 200lbs, but sure sucks the fuel. With gas being $1.10 a litre, nows not the best time to run it. Hopefully gas prices come back down to earth soon. I really enjoyed rebuilding it, invested more that i thought, but if all goes well, i'll definately do another.
