Simpleton7016 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I opted to make the 912 the "summer" tractor and switched the deck, vacuum collector, turf tires, etc over from the 7016. But here is the problem. If you look at the connection, it doesn't fit as well as it did on the 7016. I realize that the lengths of the tractors vary by about and inch and a half...but I thought they are the same width. I used the same deck on both but for the life of me, I can't figure out why this connection is not a great fit. I know it looks like the trailer is not straight behind, but it is the same whether on an angle or straight. I thought maybe something might be different with the hitch's, but they look the same: 912 hitch: 7016 hitch: And ideas what could be causing these to not line up the same on this tractor versus the 7016? Here is the only picture of the vac on the 7016....
RayS Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 It looks to me that you have the deflector on the mower deck. You need to remove that and put the vac adapter on the deck where the deflector is. or is that just a wear line on the deck in the first picture where the deflector used to be?
JJ MARSHALL Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 was the vac on a 42 deck and you switch it to a 48 deck? JJ
Simpleton7016 Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 no....it is exactly the same deck.....befuddled!
Simpleton7016 Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 Is this piece called a stone guard? I am removing it tomorrow to try to make my vac suck better....is there any reason to keep it on?
Simpleton7016 Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 Also, I remamber reading in the archives about a "metal" deck adapter and how it (unlike the plastic adapter) will wrap all the way down under the 48" deck. But now when I am trying to find that thread, I can't. :(! Are these "metal" deck adapters hard to find? Rare? Has anyone that has tried both found the metal one to be significantly more efficient? I guess I always just looked at the front and saw that it went to the bottom of the deck....I did not look at the rear of the deck until tonight....see below. RayS Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I have had both and prefer the metal over the plastic. The only ones that Simplicity made for the new style deck like yours were plastic that I am a ware of. You can go to any outdoor power dealer that sells Trac Vac equipment and they can order the metal one for you. It is made by Trac Vac and the last one that I bought was $115.00 thru them.
Simpleton7016 Posted August 6, 2006 Author Posted August 6, 2006 $115 clams.....sheez!! There is a running Serf with Deck on e-bay near my house that I could have picked up for $125! Ray, as a man of science, does the extra inch and a half give you $115 worth of additional clippings? I assume you have tried both....
RayS Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I don`t set their prices. I have both. Remove the stone guard and slow down your ground speed. That should increase the amount of clippings that you pick up. There probably is only $5.00 in steel there. Then you figure in wages, benefits, overhead and having to make a profit to stay in business and they come up with a X a mount of dollars they have to have for a product. I can buy a muffler for my truck for $20.00 dollars but the original for my 917H is over $85.00.
Simpleton7016 Posted August 6, 2006 Author Posted August 6, 2006 Ah, don't get me wrong....I am the drum leader when it comes to free market capitalism. I don't dispute the $115 price. Someone more knowledgeable than myself set that price based on the laws of supply and demand. I am not disputing the price or questioning their right to set it wherever they want. I am just trying to make my own value judgement based on yours or anyone else's experience using the 'larger' metal adapter versus the undersized plastic one. If the consensus is that it does that much better of a job, then I would be willing to pay $200. But if the consensus is that it doesn't make that much difference, then I will spend the money elsewhere....maybe that Serf.:D In your opinion, is it worth it? Thanks, Erik
RayS Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 It does hang lower than the plastic one and probably picks up more clippings because of that. I would try slowing my ground speed down. the slower you go the more it would pick up.
2burning Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I am not a vac expert! but aren't you supposed to use the newer style stone guard when you use a vac, like this one?: It seems to me the stone guard helps the strength of the deck, keeping the deck from bending around the opening.
