john2oak Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hello, i don't know if i posted it in the right forum. With the permission of the owner, i show you a picture of this tractor. Its for sale. Since its a long drive from my place, i did not see it in person, i only have this pic. The owner says that its a Simplicity with only a problem of carburator on the Briggs & Stratton motor, the balance is working Ok according to him. Is it a case of "lack of love syndrome" or could it worth the trip ? Just a question. Thanks and sorry if its not in the good forum. Salutations
HubbardRA Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 John, This is a tractor question, and you have posted it in the correct forum. The tractor shown in the picture looks like a Simplicity 700. It is just like the 61 Wards tractor that I have. These are very good tractors. It was probably made in 59,60, or 61. Wrong color, but paint is cheap. Depending on the price, it would be a very good tractor to have.
Guest Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 The question is, do you have the time to give it more attention(aka Love?)? i.e. is it worth your time, the cost of gas is and the time to fix it? I just bought $70 in parts from Jacks last night to keep mine going. So when I turn around to sell one, I have to think about how long I want to wait till someone appreciates what efforts went into fixing the machine. I had someone interested in buying a running 725, complete and he was looking for a lot of machine and spending low dollars considering the money I had into it.
john2oak Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Thanks for answering Mr Hubbard and Mr Michael, my main preoccupations were, at the starting line, is it really a Simplicity and if so, could it be a relativly positive deal worthing at least the trip to go there, price question put aside. Like someone could have write back for exemples that this particular model was very fragile or that pieces could be rare and hard to find for it, or that this one in particular looks horrible compared to those you used to see even when they are in bad shape, etc... You are giving me good leads, and good materiel for reflexion too, for answering the first steps of my "inquiry". And then next, the price. I think i can take my time with this one even if at this moment, price asked is reasonably cheap, time is helping to slow sellers ambitions, as you know better than me. And furthermore, i could combine this trip with another one in sight to reduce my "costs". Due to cultural differences with the US, here, poeple are according less importance at this kind of "object", and their first thaughts is always to turn their back on these old things "that never work anyway"...Its not wishful thinking, its reality, but surely i can be beaten by probabilities just to proove me wrong...it can happens. Thanks again for youre expertise, greatly appreciated. Salutations
goatfarmer Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Depending on the price, looks to be a great tractor to restore,or make what you want.I would inquire about it,if it were local to me.Just about any part that might be needed is available, either from dealers,or from someone around here.
john2oak Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Mr. Goatfarmer, i ve got a couple of things to take care of this week, like going north, but i will follow the lead...and its a fact that it is less adventurous when youre a member of a club like here. Very true. Salutations
john2oak Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 Hello, after reading youre messages, i told myself i should hurry a bit even if the tractor has been for sale since for quite a period. Well, believe it or not, i missed it by inches...too bad for me, but like i wrote before i had few importants things to do before my week of holidays (next week), i could hardly go faster with this one. Thanks for the advices to you all. Better chance next time. Salutations
