Front Spindle Thrust Bearing Modification

Recommended Posts

stevenj
I'm thinking about adding the Torrington thrust bearings to the front spindles. It's been a couple of years since they were first tried, so I was wondering if those of you that did the modification have had any durability problems with them like grit wear, cracked washers, or flat spotted needle bearings? The original posts stated that it was like having power steering. I was wondering if that is a little exageration, or if the steering effort really was noticeably reduced?

I have been using the thrust bearing set up on 3 different tractors for at least 3 years. They all work well. No special problems. It is not really like power steering, but it really does make steering easier (especially if all the other steering components are working properly and/or in good condition). Tom
