Corncountytractors

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine has an older Sunrunner. And the pulley on the hydro unit. Wallerd or wore out. And the shaft. This is held on with a snapring. Any help or suggestions. On the easyest and least expensive way to fix this. Thanks, BOB

If it was mine, I would file in a spot for a straight keyway in both the shaft and the pulley. It is a lot of work. And if you are handy with a Dremel the job would go quicker. There are better ways but all involve $$$$$

Well Ron's suggestion is the easiest I can think of, otherwise you will need to disassemble the it and take the shaft out and have a Keyway cut and if youg going to do that you might as well look for a used unit...

a ground flat would probably hold, as suggested. it appears by the photos that the shaft is galled and also undersize now in the area of the key? if so that is much harder on whichever method you chose to secure to shaft, new key or flat with allen bolt (or 2 to be safe) meaning higher repeat failure under load. short of removing shaft, welding back up and then cut back to size on lathe and re-cut key way, will probably fail again. if need it fixed now, and dont have a lot of tooling, and "farmers repair" is ok, consider adding a tack weld to the shaft/pulley along with the flat that you grind. scott

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
