richp 0 Posted November 19, 2000 Has anybody ever put a 72 and later cone style clutch on an older tractor. The bevel gearbox should be the same. Any idea's?
Sandy_Lake_Imp 2 Posted November 19, 2000 The cross shaft would need changed at the very least. The old one would not have the proper length, keyways or threads in the end. Bill
JeffNemes 1 Posted November 21, 2000 There is more than just putting on the cone clutch. You would also need to add the swing arm with the idler pulleys to use for the mower deck. The hardest part would be the cone clutch engage/disengage mounting hardware, as the pivot point bracket is welded to the side iron frame. Good Luck Mike. JeffNemes 1 Posted November 21, 2000 I'm curious. Why would you want to convert to the newer cone clutch PTO?? I like the old style PTO with the belt driven jackshaft. It has a shorter drive belt to the mower and the belts don't squall when the PTO is engaged. The one on by AC B-1 still works fine despite lots of play due to worn bearings.
