dual wheel adaptors

Recommended Posts

Was the factory made dual wheel adaptors wide enough to run a set of 23x10.50 side by side ? I think that the factory # for the A/C B110 B112 and HB112 adaptors was 2025690. THANKS JJ

The adapters that I have fit two 6x12 nicely, but I think they were made to mount a 6x12 to a 23x8x12, but I mite be mistaken.

I have a set of factory adapters that was on my B1 with two 6/12 tires. I think the dual wheel kit for the latter Bs with 23/10.50 tires the wheels and tires with the kit were 6/12 ag tires.

Here are some pictures and notes I made on the Dual Wheel Adapters (MFG#'s 990213/990286). These are original adapters, a friend had, I quickly snapped pictures and then he sold. I'll plan to edit this post with more info as I can find it. Dual adapter height w/adapter studs:

Dual adapter height (alone):

Notes about the dual wheel adapters:

The notes indicate that there were six holes on the side which had threads, with only five of these being threaded. The other side had five 1/2" holes. I was not sure of the thickness of the steel, something between 1/4" and 3/16" of an inch (aka the 1/4" > Y > 3/16"). The key dimension is that these had a space of 6-1/2" from each flange. Otherwise, the pointers showing where the weld was and the width of the flange was 5-1/2". The term "spacers" should be refered as "adapter studs" and these were 1-1/4" long with threads on both sides; including the threads they were 2-3/4" long. Hope this helps anyone looking to make these. Here's the thread side:

Here's the welded side (note that the weld is raised slightly):

This is the manual on the 990213 and 990286 dual kits:

I'm trying to figure out this text... any ideas? I read: For Sov. Tractor (Soveriegn Tractor?) Use 10-154373 spacer with snow-tri 20-154373 wit Sov. Tire and dual on Sov. Does it mean use a 10 verses 20 spacer in size or ... it can't mean quantity? Can it? Again ideas?

When I take mine off the 725 I can do the same. I think mine are shorter than Michael's. I should get to swapping attachments in the next few weeks.

Elon, how much space is between your tires? Is it one inch, a half inch, or do they touch? Note: I don't have these adapters, I only saw them and photographed them. I do have another set I traded to get (no cash) and I'll put pictures of that design up. They need to be cut down. Nice job.

Also, I would think that using the adapter studs verses trying to bolt through the adapter and the wheel would save a lot of effort putting on the wheel. It must be extremely hard aligning the adapter over the wheel and putting in the bolts at the same time.

What's the purpose of the adapter threads? I am in the process of faricating a set of wheel spacers, and wonder why these adapters are so long.

I've been trying to figure out for a long time why the adapter studs were used... my latest guess is for ease of putting the wheel on, I also remember it being said that the studs will space over the traction control bolts. The key thing I'd want to know is the spacing between the tires. The size of the adapter could be adjusted for what ever stud/bolt solution used.

Now here's a question for all, how do you get the weights on once you put together the dual wheels? Or should you even use weights on dual wheels? As for putting on the weights, my first guess would be you'd have to use the Carriage Bolts on the rim with a nut/washer run down to the wheel. Then use a washer, locknut, nut on the weight. Second guess, you just leave the carriage bolt dangling on the wheel during assembly to bolt it later. Experience?

I used 1 pair of weights on my LL. Can't remember wether I had to insert the carriage bolt first or not (I think so). I think that putting too much weight way out on the outside wheel might lead to a durability issue ie: axle tube failure or diff gears etc.

Michael, Good info for those who want to make a set of spacers/adapters. Maybe put your pictures and dimensions in the DIY section? Thanks,

For the weights, you can use allthread rod. Cut a piece just one nut thickness longer than the carriage bolt. Put the rods thru the wheel with a nut on both sides of the wheel and torque it down. Assemble the dual wheels, then the wheel weight can be put onto the threaded rods after the dual wheels are assembled. Just slide the weight onto the rods and install the nuts. The double nuts at the wheel face will keep the rod from turning when tightening the single nuts at the weight.

Roy, Thanks- I'll try to pull that together after we get more contributions. I think Elon was going to photograph and measure his too. I am also going to show the set I traded later today... Michael G.

Different wheel widths and different tire sizes along with desired space between tires require different width spacers. The original spacers were made for the narrow wheels and tires that were available at the time and came stock on these tractors.

(Thank you Maynard(UCD) and all.) This particular reply will be used to compile open questions and list links to past articles about the Dual Wheel Kits. I will edit this reply such that the questions are clear and the references are easily identified. The other replies I made above will get edited with improved pictures or additional pictures; if you have any good pictures please reply also. Here are some links which talk about garden tractor bolt patterns. Sounds like the Simplicity/AC machines are a 5 bolt pattern on a 4.5" radius. I am looking for where you can get premade flanges or buy steel stock. Do they just slice off Stock of round bar? If so that may be the solution to make the early L10 spacers (i.e. cut 1" off a 5.5" steel bar.) http://members.aol.com/pullingtractor/wheels.htm

I am thinking the adapter threads are to clear the two differential adjust bolts. I wonder if they used them on late model diffs.

If you go to the racing sights they make all types of strong metal adapter studs; ccSpecialties has studs for around $50, but raised their price on the adapters from $150 to $165. There's got to be a better place to buy this stuff. mg
