I use Dexron ATF in my 712H. BTW,the hydro on the 4211 was released to push it,did you find the lever under the seat?

yep, found it. figured there was a "release" somewhere..... ATF works? When i had my hydro Bolens, i ran tractor hydraulic fluid from the local tractor shop, but that's kinda pricey. Figured if ATF would work, that would be the more cost effective way to go. Thanx again Kenny :D

The manual for my 3212 calls for Dextron ATF for the vickers. The Vickers manual only calls for hydrolic fluid though. You can download the vickers manual here: http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch.php#start edit: Forgot to mention: Not a stupid question. The manual for the 3212 calls for 90W for the tranny, though it turns out it's for the 3 speed. Further down it gets into the hydro tranny, which it recommends ATF.

It's all Hydraulic fluid, just different grades and additives. The Simplicity transmission and gear lube chart linked above calls for Dexron ATF for the Vickers Hydro pump in Landlord, Sovereign, Baron, B series, 300, 400 prior to 1975.
