Baron shuttle

I have to get to pic resizer working. I try, but it wastes hours and I need the time to work on the tractors more than getting the pics small enough to download. Anyway, I picked up a Baron shuttle shift on Saturday from a commercial contractor moving to Arizona to take advantage of the commercial contruction boom out there. Paid almost nothing as he was good to go. Funny thing is he bought the tractor wanting a heavy duty snow blower (tractor came only with a mowing deck). He bought an old school 38 inch Troy Built, single stage, chain drive snow blower and had his guys graft it on to the Baron. He bought the Troy Built blower on ebay in New Jersey and sent somebody down from Boston to go get it. And then spent time and money to fabricate the way to the Troy blower working on the Baron. I asked and he had never heard of simpletractors. He could have contacted the club and had a blower in no time that actually fit and did not cob the tractor up for so much less money. New tires, 2 sets of rear tires on rims, chains and a neat, well fabricated 2 inch reciever set up on the rear, which sticks out quite a ways to the rear. This allowed moving construction trailers around the yard. Also there is going to be a cast chunk of concrete with side handles that plugs into the receiver as a rear weight when snow blowing. All the belts look new and it starts instantly and runs smoothly. I just wonder if that short, adjustable bolt which acts as a brake on the planetary drive when you pull the shuttle handle into neutral should have an asbestos brake pad on the end of it (It doesn't, it's just a bare metal little plate on the end of the bolt.) That adjustable bolt braking action is what keeps you from grinding the gears when you select a gear.

Yes you do.

Sounds like you did good though.

Yes it should.

Click here >> This is a free download it is very easy to use and you can re-size several different ways. The easiest way is to open the picture file with Irfanview click on file, click on save as, change file name to keep original, In save options box set the save quality bar to a lower setting and click save. If KB size is not small enough move the slide to a lower number and save again. Another way is to open picture with Irfanview, click on image in tool bar, click on re-size/re-sample, click on the 640 x 480 pixels button and click ok. Either way only takes a few seconds to do. Thanks for the tip UCD, will check it out ASAP (whenever that day comes). I tell you, I bought my 48 inch deck Murray new in 1996 and other than routine upkeep have never had to work on it. I bought 3 Simplicity tractors in the last 3 weeks and have been running around like a one legged man in ankicking contest ever since. For starters you got to do the oil/lube/plug/filters job and adjustments that somehow got overlooked by previous owners. You may note above I need the bolt with a brake pad on the end of it for the shuttle shift assy that Greg affirmed above. The 717 lost spark after putting the new carb on and it's not the plug and I changed the points. Never did solve the creeping idle under no load before it quit. I have gave up on the 728 entirely. Plus I think I may have bought another shuttle shift Baron. You ever notice how you work on greasy old tractors every night after a while you start to stink like solvents and old grease and motor oil no matter how many showers you take? I'm there. Best, rsnik
