swede 0 Posted October 19, 2006 I have a chance at this 720 located about 8 hrs from me. The guy claims a local implement dealer would give him $1000 for this, but did not say if they have actually seen it. I have only pictures to go by that a relative took for me. It does not have a front PTO clutch, but I would assume it does have a rear. He did not know when the new engine was put in or who did it. Also, the rear tire tire went flat about 2-3 years ago, but he hasn't gotten around to fixing it yet. (???) I guess it is much better to leave the axel sit in the dirt.... And he does not have have a mower deck, but it looks like the mule drive is laying on the ground under the front. IN one of the pictures I can see where the hood has also separated at the spot welds on one side. In my mind, I think $1000 is too much - I was hoping for the $700-800 range given the condition. I don't think this thing has been run for awhile so who knows what the engine is like. Any advice guys??
Ketchamized 2 Posted October 19, 2006 Swede, It's a very nice tractor... But I wouldn't pay $1,000 for it. That's insane. If it runs good, I'd offer the guy $700, leave it or take it. If it doesn't run, I'd offer $500. That's just my personal opinion. It looks like it could use some TLC. I highly doubt that the "implement" shop saw the tractor if it's disabled like that. Also, I highly doubt a tractor shop of any kind would pay that much for something used. I think the guy's pulling your leg.
wilm169 1 Posted October 19, 2006 First it is a late model with the heavy front axel and they go for more. Kohler engine? 2nd it has both 3 point hitch and rear PTO front Pto can be found. It also depends on the amout of dry rot in the tires, and it looks like the command engine+ if it is not stuck. Deal with him on the price. Maybe yes. If it was close to me I would and make it my desanated loader tractor.:D [where is it]}:)}:)
Tasbrus 0 Posted October 19, 2006 (/)$1000(/) TOO MUCH. unless you really really really want it. Then no price would be to much. Also it seems to me that by covering just the seat that the owner only takes care of himself and not the machine.
Guest Posted October 19, 2006 I'd buy one of the club members tractors listed in Classifieds. I'd pick the nicest at the best price. Is it worth it... spending hours greasy, dirty, looking for parts, ... just to say you got a deal. That tractor doesn't even look like a deal. $500 for parts for the next one you find. Stay firm. PGL 449 Posted October 19, 2006 From the pictures only, assume nothing good. If it were disassembled and the engine good, the parts would likely sell for his total, maybe more. If it were near me, I might consider it for a parts tractor, but not for $1,000.
Bunky 3 Posted October 19, 2006 There's a similar tractor on ebay for $1200 and it look to be all complete.....
swede 0 Posted October 19, 2006 Thanks guys for the input. I knew $1000 was way too much, but I needed some reassurance. Sometimes when I'm after something, I get my blinders on and I need a slap back to reality. I'll let you know what happens.
MN_FISH 0 Posted October 19, 2006 $1000.00 + gas:($$$ and your valuable;) time! Wrong motor to be original. Can't tell by the picture but is the right axle missing?
JamesK 0 Posted October 19, 2006 $1K is way to much, with the ones I have and implaments I am just over 600. But I am a haggler on things like this. Make a offer all they can do is say no.
Guest Posted October 19, 2006 I'm curious, is 8 hours one way or two ways? You can add $240-300 with my truck if it's two ways; total would be $1300. Sounding expensive to me.
Scott Salmons 7 Posted October 19, 2006 Too Much!! $600 tops. The rear PTO if it works would be worth over $200. Looks like it has the High capacity front tires.
dlcentral 1 Posted October 20, 2006 just a bag of parts with some kinda flooby dooby retro eng[koh] in it,,
Mike 0 Posted October 20, 2006 There's a hidden reason why it sits there like that.........
BLT 725 Posted October 20, 2006 Ask him why he didn't sell it to the implement dealer. What does he expect to get, more money by selling private? The only thing worth taking a shot at it, is the engine and I am thinking that the oldest that could be is 1992 - 1994 that could fetch a couple of hundred. swede 0 Posted October 21, 2006 Well, I called the guy again and told him if the dealer was willing to give him $1000, he should sell it today. I tried to politely tell him what he had was kind of junky, the parts to fix it are hard to come by and it was only worth $600. I did tell him I had the Simplicity version of it and I know afew things about them. It almost sounded like he softened some. We'll see if I get a return phone call...... Thanks guys!! MPH 12 Posted October 21, 2006 I know a late model 9020 in Fairbanks for a grand too. It has a mower deck and sickle bar. The Onan is pulled and in his shop, the rest looks better then this one, I couldn't see a 1,000 for it myself.
