biggie_rat 0 Posted October 21, 2006 A lot of discussion of the Big Boy prototype. I am disassembling it this weekend after I took it to the Portland swap meet, not to sell, but just for discussion. It may return on as a different tractor sometime but a lot of people have written that couldn't make it to Portland. B.R.
MarksA-C 93 Posted October 21, 2006 That is one big tractor. I can't wait to see what you'll make next!

mowerman1193 0 Posted October 21, 2006 Hi Ron, It was nice to visit with you Friday..I wish Bunky and I could have stayed and visited a little longer as we really didn't get to talk with CarlH and some of the others much..Was a nice sized swap meet lots of things there..I seen a lot I wouldn't mind having but not really much that I couldn't live without, LOL.. I did end up with a set of the cement filled plastic wheel weights..Bunky didn't buy anything other than the gas in my van to get there, LOL... Thanks Bunky

FastPaul 0 Posted October 22, 2006 How did you adapt the front wheels? Did you weld centers from other wheels in those?
Ketchamized 2 Posted October 22, 2006 Biggie Rat, You're after my own heart! Even though I'm the type that likes it original, your tractor looks so beautiful and tough that I may even consider doing something like that. :)
AC808 0 Posted October 22, 2006 WIll a deck even fit under it?
biggie_rat 0 Posted October 22, 2006 quote:Originally posted by AC808 WIll a deck even fit under it? Yes, a 19" fits great, but a 21" is snug. I have it half way back to stock as of right now. Kind of tough working on it and watching a Colts game. B.R.
AGCO918 0 Posted October 22, 2006 Not a bad looking tractor at all.Would be neat to make it a 4x4.
skot71 0 Posted October 22, 2006 I saw this thing while I was at Ron's place. Very cool looking piece of machinery. I liked the thought he put into engineering everything. Great job!
biggie_rat 0 Posted October 23, 2006 Big Boy is back to normal today with the exeption of the modified drag link. I thought it looked kind of pitiful now with the 10.50 tires, but that's normal size. I was kind of a job to convert it back and took longer than I thought, but the custom look was worth it. Before - After - B.R.
Guest Posted October 23, 2006 nice !!! are the lights orange or is that a weird reflection? i liked it better before you changed it back. what is it going to be when you put it back together? black like the first one? Gary
stevenj 4 Posted October 23, 2006 The orange lights look like the round turn signal units for trucks.

Ketchamized 2 Posted October 25, 2006 Biggie Rat, That's a big difference in looks. I think it looks MUCH better with the big wheels- and that's a purist (me) saying that.
biggie_rat 0 Posted October 25, 2006 I liked the look too, but it wasn't the perfect bodied tractor that I want to end up with. B.R.

B.R. One item to consider with the big front tires. As Biggie has shown the tires turned, the clearance to the hood is "not so much". The front axle pivots in the center and stops when the top of the axle touches the bottom of the front frame extension. I'd bet that if you jacked up the front of the frame until the front tires were off the ground a good 6-8 inches, you could not articulate the front axle to the metal-to-metal stops without the tires crashing into the hood sheet metal. ZippoVarga 75 Posted October 25, 2006 a simple pin locked front axle pivot point would eliminate any risk towards the oops factor. just my two cents worth and easily reversed.
biggie_rat 0 Posted October 26, 2006 The original ‘repaint’ is on the tractor and there are no tire marks on either side of the grill (hood) frame in my pics and there has been no touching up on the paint job except on the rear fender where a newspaper I was using to mask the seat touch the paint before it dried when I took it off too soon and one other spot that I forget where it was. I tried the tractor out extensively around the yard, field and ditches, just to test alterations, etc. If anything was going to break, I wanted it to break in downtown Ratville, not on the main street of the Portland Swap Meet. The only problem I encountered was tire rub on the air filter housing when the axle did pivot up and the marks can be seen in the pics if you look close. That could have been cured with a 14hp or smaller air filter, I believe, but I wanted to show that it was actually a 16hp with the large air filter can. I could re-install the set up and do the 8” thing to take more pics, but it was too much work to disassemble and since it I know nothing rubbed pics can wait until I put it back together on another tractor.
