Crystals on carb??

My son informs me that we are getting a whitish bunch of crystals forming on the carb of one of our older machines. He says they are forming where the fuel line attaches to the carb. Do these indicate water in the gas (I thought we just cleaned out the tank)? A simple leak? Or are they damp-weather induced? Thanks! Tom

Sounds like aluminum corrosion induced by damp weather as you said. I would rule out water in the gas causing it as water molecules are larger than gasoline molecules and therefore you would have gas leaking before the water. A small gas leak could possibly add to the corrosion but you should be able to see if it is wet with gas around the connection.
