help with landlord limited slip rearend

Recommended Posts

perry
i have a question about the limted slip bolts on the rearend hub. acording to the manual it says the traction control section is NOT applicable to the landlord 2010 or 2012. well, my 2010 has the 2 bolts in the hub. does this mean i have the traction control or not??.

I wouldnt call it traction control, but rather what you are refering to is called a 'limited-slip' hub. The way it works is that when you say turn right, the inside or right wheel actually rotates slower than the outside or left wheel. The reason this is desiriable is that it makes it easier to turn the tractor, and will turn it in a smaller radius. It also saves your lawn from potentially being torn up. If you had a solid rear axle and you were to turn to the right, then both wheels would rotate at the same speed and the inside wheel would want to spin and thus dig up or put ruts in your lawn in each place that you turn. pull the two bolts out and see if there are nylon plugs behind the bolts. It's these nylon plugs that put pressure on the planetary assembly behind the right hub effectively giving you the limited slip. If there are no nylon plugs then there is no traction adjustment. If there is nylon plugs then it's possible your rearend is a replacement from stock.

Short story...the manual is wrong. It's not the first time for errors in Simplicity manuals.

Are those nylon plugs and the set bolts still available?

Randy, I don't know about the pads, but the set bolts are nothing more than lug bolts same as the ones on the wheels.

152042 is the nylon plug number. Not sure if they are still available.
