How does hub seal?

Recommended Posts

My 712 has a light grease leak around the collar that holds the right rear hub on. What seals this? Is there a seal between the collar and the hub? Or just it just need to be as tight as possible?

There's no seal. Just make sure the hub has no end play and tighten the collar against the hub.

The collar should be flush with the axle on the right hub. The tightening (removal of clearance) should be done with the collar on the left side axle. Once the axle tube assembly is full of grease, then grease should squirt out of the crack between the collar and hub when you grease the axle.

Hi, The only seal is the "rubber band" on the diferential assy that rubs against the flange on the hub and rolls up the side of this flange. Al Eden
