these decks are an easy rebuild. most bearing houses are no problem in supplying new bearings, very inexpensive. Did mine and works great. You may be have to be little creative on replaceing the old , but it can be done. Rolleres may be anther story?

(This reply is reserved to list/show the 48" decks...) Harrya- Thanks for your contribution. Here is a photo of a 48" deck... Notice the attachment point has a solid steel bar between where the deck pins in; some 48" decks do not have that. 48" Rotary Lawn Mower 990669 (Note Production year 1971) http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_400_1333_00_AT_S.pdf

Note: It took 2 hours while watching a movie to organize the 42" decks last night...

I'm not sure what you are asking. The old decks will fit all of the tractors up until large frame tractors. The old decks "height adjusters" are close together and will not fit under the large frame tractors. I have rebuilt at least three decks (old style and large frame style) and they are very similar in how they are assembled. A few years ago there was someone who changed the bail assembly from an old style to a large frame style. I hope this helps. JH

JH- Thanks. I actually have no clear question, that you will see jump out at you. My general question is "what are the differences between the lawn decks on the B-Series Tractors". I posted sketches from each manual of all decks by the MFG#. This way members can scroll down and perhaps easily identify their decks. I will be looking more closely at the differences as time goes on. In the meantime, hopefully this post indexes the club discussions so people spend less time searching. Michael G.

dav, eventually it would be better placed. I am hoping to lead this discussion and I am looking for some constructive replies on this topic. If anyone has any good photographs which show differences in these decks and can perhaps identify the MFG#; that would be a big help. Thanks!

I thank you for your effort. Non of mine have stickers on them so maybe now I'll give them a number. When I took the 42 inch off the B-112 last week I noticed I have a bearing job to do this winter.

MPH, You are welcome. I just added a picture of a 990575 up above, you'd think it was the boxy style from the sketch in the manual. That deck had the sticker still on it. Also notice that the Guard is no longer on the belt/pulley covers after 990575. You might also notice that the 990670 deck was part of the 1971 production run, so actually all the decks after 990575 were not built for the 1960-1970 B-Series, they were compatible/replacements.

I received an email asking the following: > Hello Michael; > what 42" deck mfg# was on my 1967 B110 when it was built. I > have no numbers on it (See Maynard's reply below...)We really can not be sure, but we can be sure that is is not the 990190 or any model greater than the 990575 because the manual on the 670 says it's production year 1971; so it must be either a 575,544,501 or 407. These decks seemed pretty much the same in style and design, hopefully we'll figure that out comparing peoples decks in this discussion. I've only added photographs above using decks which still have a sticker on them. If anyone has a deck which has a sticker which is not pictured, please post it so we have a copy. Thank you.

The Belt and Blade manual will tell you what deck MFG# was supposed to be on a model tractor. 42" deck on a B-110 should have been a 990501 The above info is nice but to use it you have to do a search and most don't do it. It all is in the manuals if people would look. The Belt & blade manual is the best cross reference to have. Use it to find the MFG#'s and then use the techpubs site to download the manuals. It can't get any easier than that but some have to do it the hard way.

Maynard, Thank you. Well here's a difference between the 990407 and the 501,544 and 575:

Notice that the Bail Assembly has a solid bar after the 407 model. They must have discovered that was a weak point. So that's how you can tell you have the 407. The difference between the rest is still a mystery. Please feel free to add photo's or point out any differences anyone knows. Thank you!

Now, the 501, 544 and 575 all look to be exactly the same part numbers by comparing two manuals. The 501 & 544 only have one manual and the 575 has it's own manual. After comparing each of the diagrams, I'm fairly confident these manuals only differ by page 3 and page 8. So if you have one of these decks without the sticker, they are the same. #1 - Page 3 of the 545 manual has a diagram of the adapter kit shown here:

#2 - Page 8 of the 501 & 544 manual lists the AM part which is not listed in the 545 manual:
