PGL 449 Posted November 6, 2006 I'm in the process of restoring a B-10 I got this summer and have a problem removing the engine. Looking at the parts diagram, it appears there is supposed to be a tab locking the bolt head on the left rear mount so the nut can be turned off. On mine, the nut just keeps turning, so I assume the tab was not put on or was not put on correctly. I can't see any way of accessing the bolt head and couldn't jam it with a screwdriver. Have any of you had this problem and solved it? If so, how? I'm thinking of grinding off the nut and just putting in a new bolt on reassembly.
ehertzfeld 1 Posted November 6, 2006 Cut it if you have too, but I have used a wide pry bar to jam in there. It works pretty good. Luckily most of these engines, before a restore, have enough oil all over the place to prevent those bolts from rusting up.:D
MPH 12 Posted November 6, 2006 If you have enough bolt beyond the nut you can also grab that with a pair of vice grips. Yea, you will booger the threads. Another method is too split the nut with a sharp chisel

dirtsaver 1 Posted November 6, 2006 Locking tabs eh?? I guess that's my lesson for the day.
ka9bxg 3 Posted November 6, 2006 In most casses you can use a impact on the nut and they will spin off.I have done this a few times and it works for me. Bob
MPH 12 Posted November 6, 2006 Instead of a locking tab, on several I've taken apart the top of the bolt is a rectangle too large to spin.
Scott Salmons 7 Posted November 6, 2006 go to sears and get a nut splitter.
RayS 80 Posted November 7, 2006 I have had to use a chisel on these before as well.
PGL 449 Posted November 7, 2006 Thanks all. It's off. I tried a Stanley Wonder bar to hold the head, no go. Ditto needle nose vice grips. Don't have an impact wrench, but it may be a good suggestion for Christmas. I lifted up the front end and found the bolt and nut virtually welded together and the nut ground or worn off on an angle. A combination of an angle grinder and cold chisel got it off in a hurry. Based on time and effort, I would recommend that approach right away if you encounter a similar problem. I like the idea of the large head on the bolt and will try to locate one for the reassembly.
