Help with cooling fan on Sunstrand hydro.

Recommended Posts

Just bought a used fan and shroud for the Sunstrand hydro pump on my Sovereign (Mfg. # 1690006). It doesn't really want to fit. The bolt holes don't line up the best unless I really crank on the shroud and when I get it put on, the fan rubs in the shroud to the point that you can hardly turn the pump by hand. Are the fans and shrounds different between the Sunstrand and Vickers pumps? I was wondering if I may have gotten parts for a Vickers. I realize that the deflector that mounts on top of the shroud is different between the two. Anyone have any ideas? I think I have it mounted correctly. There is very little room between the fan blades and the tab that the bottom bolt goes into. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

The part number for the shroud for your tractor is 178774. The part number for the shroud for a vickers is 166114 and the number for the shroud for a 900 series is 1666415. They are all different numbers according to my manuals. If you can`t get it to work let me know I may have a few around here.

Isn't the sunstrand fan plastic and vickers metal bolt on?

The fan and shroud were missing from my AC716H when I first got it. I installed the fan and shroud from NOS parts. It took some finagling and aligning, and even a little bending, to keep the fan from hitting the shroud. I have used it for several years now, but even this past weekend, I had to do a little tweaking, because the fan was starting to hit the shroud again. A hammer and a large screwdriver, a couple smacks at the right point, and it is again quiet. I can't tell you the factory correct way to align the shroud. I just put mine on and kept messing with it till it didn't hit and was quiet. Problem is that for the fan to work right, it must run pretty close to the shroud. It just takes a little work to get them aligned properly.
