lboy1971 0 Posted December 26, 2006 I picked up a Wheel Horse 5000W altenator or generator (which is correct?) It's made by generac and looks very similar to the simplicity/allis units and the Sears units I've seen for mounting on tractors. Does anyone have info or repair manuals or links to them? It was working but now it doesn't.

Simpleton7016 3 Posted December 26, 2006 Lloyd, I have a very good friend who works out of that plant in Waukesha. Let me know if you have any problems or if the part/parts you need are overly expensive.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted December 26, 2006 Try plugging in an electric drill, crank the unit and pull the drill on while spinning the chuck by hand. Sometimes this will re-energise (or flash) the exiter bourd and restore the output. IF this works let it run for a few minuets and shut it off. Then recrank the unit and see if you again have power. This may help to diagnose the problem.
lboy1971 0 Posted December 26, 2006 Thanks for the help and info. The one I picked up looks just like the Allis unit posted by UCD. A previous owner removed all the tractor mounting hardware and bolted it to a small homemade 2 wheel trailer and mounted a 9 or 10HP wisconsin engine from a tube frame Bolens to power it. Even built a small dash board and battery box for the engine. The wisconsin engine runs very well at least, lol.
lboy1971 0 Posted December 28, 2006 I tried both of those numbers and they were both disconnected. The model number on the 5000 Watt alternator is 97 50GN-01. Here's a picture of what it looks like. BLT 725 Posted December 28, 2006 Lloyd, how fast does that Wisconsin run in RPM?
gregc 3 Posted December 28, 2006 Lloyd, try this number: 1-888-GENERAC http://www.generac.com/industrial/contactus.asp
lboy1971 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Not sure of the rpms offhand on the Wisconsin. I would guess similar to a briggs or tecumseh. It looks like it was taken out of a Bolens tractor to me.
BLT 725 Posted December 28, 2006 Briggs and Stratton bought the pressure washer and small generator end from Generac a few years ago. Sears was Generac's largest customer in the small KW line at one time. Briggs has some wiring diagrams that can be downloaded and over the years that has changed very little.
