Guest Posted December 16, 2000 Thusly: Gearbox in neutral, hydro in neutral. Start engine. Horrible grinding noise. Depress clutch, noise abates somewhat. Move hydro forward or back, more noise, no motion. Is the whole hydro unit shot, or just the pump? Or (I hope, I hope) something less disasterous? Todd 0 Posted December 16, 2000 You might start by taking the bolts out of plate (and seat) ontop of the transmission. That will give you a good view of most of the gears in the box.You can also start the engine with the top plate off so you can see which gears are (gulp) grinding. You might also check and see if your shifter is shifting the gears. I have been there and done that, so if you have any ????'s just email me
tbar1.1 0 Posted December 18, 2000 I got a 4040 and that hasn't happened to me yet but you might also check the " flex plate" at the engine pulley under the oil cooler. Mine makes noise when out of adjustment but still goes.
