Odd looking drive coupling

Recommended Posts

The rear drive coupling on the Landlord was strange looking to me, and I wondered if this was normal or indicated some unique repair at some time in it's life:

What seemed weird to me was the double spacers. The front looked just like the one on my B-10 except it used large Allen head capscrews.

Very normal, fiber disc was the replacement for the rubber and steel coupler. In this case there seems to be some mixing of old and new hardware. I'm not sure about the double spacers but the two washers shown in the photo are the correct way to mount the disc. If you were to bolt the disc to the shaft flange directly there wouldn't be enough flex in the disc eventually causing failure or vibration IMO.

I have a few spacers that look like that. When the old style rubber coupler breaks loose the steel plate rubs a slot on the spacer. I had one that was so bad that the bolt started to get rubbed. GregB

One of these had rubbed through as well. I suspected a drive coupler update, since I found a small peice of steel with rubber bonded to it, just laying in the drive tunnel. When I put it back I'll probably get shorter bolts and just use the two washers on either side of the disk

Looks like something I would do, if I didn't have the correct length bolt. Should work fine that way.

As I got further into the teardown, it looks like the Coupling broke at some point. There are slots worn into the bottom of the frame and the end plate is nicely welded back it. I bet that was an unpleasant few seconds for whomever was riding it when it happened!! At least the BGB seems to still be tight.
