94-302-vert 0 Posted January 9, 2007 My B10 is a "new" B10 (black engine) based on what Yankee Sales has told me in the past. Well the connecting rod broke last year and I finally got it broken open last night to survey the damage. what I found was the broken connecting rod but also the counterbalance gear was in the pan. I cannot find a schematic showing what this really entails or how to repair it. So while I haven't actually checked the crank journal yet or removed the head/piston to check the piston and bore what are the odds of this thing being repairable for short $$? I really want to try and get it ready to do some plowing should the weather here in CT ever get cold enough. Thanks, Chris
PGL 450 Posted January 9, 2007 I'd start looking for a good replacement engine at least for parts. Check the classified ads.
ambler 0 Posted January 9, 2007 You can down load the parts manual from Briggs and buy the antique service manual. I don't believe the 10hp has a balance gear. cam? A used engine may be the way to go.
Willy 2 Posted January 9, 2007 If you decide to overhaul your 10 horse before you spend any money check your cam real good . I had a rod snap and it boggered the cam up beyond repair. Willy

94-302-vert 0 Posted January 10, 2007 Thanks Guys... I got into the top of the motor yesterday and the piston is shot, the crank is shot too. so without even noticing anything on the cam this motor is not worth fixing. How much would all of this cost to fix? Looks like I will be looking for either a donor tractor or used motor. Any ideas what these motors are worth? How about a tractor that is not running but has the right motor? I love the tractor (it is a real workhorse) so it will get fixed... :D Thanks guys, Chris
