610 Tranny won't work (Now I feel Stupid))

Recommended Posts

I just started up my 610 to see how the plow would be. Shifted, Nothing. Tryed all gears, nothing. The pully is moving, its trying to do something, but it isn't moving. Whats happening? Is it broken?

well, I did a little investigating. The pulled on that large pully in the back and then turned it. MOVEMENT!!! Then I pushed it back, turned it. Nothing xx( No signs of life. Is there a key that could have sheared? or is it finally showing its age?

mark, i have no clue about the transmissions on our machines!!!:(! but thinking common sense of what you said on your second post, do you by chance have the belt backwards? to be more exact, flip it off the pully off the engine! like i said, my thinking is common sense, beyond that i can't help you.

Mark, When you pushed back on the pulley and turned it did the shaft turn also? Maybe the shear key on the pulley went bad but is partly in there and when you pulled on it you jammed it in the key way making it work. Tom

Well shannon, I was just using it Monday with the snow that we got. But the belt might be getting worn out. And Tom, the shaft was spinning.

Mark I have a 738 same tractor there is no keyway on the large pully but there is a set screw in the center of the v groove if thats loose or stripped that may be your problem.

Mark, The set screw Rick is talking about screws into a shear key that sits in a keyway on the shaft. Since the shaft moves as you say then the problem lies internally. Tom

Take it apart ,if you cant fix it, then look for another one. But you might just surprise yourself.

Simpleton and I were talking and he thinks that some bolts up near the top front (near the pivot) might be loose. I'll have to check that out.

Well, I was just about to take off the tranny... Looked at the wheel... and the pin was gone..... 1 pin from 1 wheel, caused all that trouble. Well, Problem solved!

Always look for the "simple" solution first. Nice to hear the trans is still good. Tom
