tfrazier 0 Posted January 27, 2007 Hello all, been a little while since I was in the discussion forum. It hasn't been snowing enough in Norther Indiana to get much tractor time in and I'm getting a little stir crazy. So I have decided to do some work on my deck. Can anyone tell me what the length of the Roller Bar on a 48" deck is supposed to be. The deck is for my AC716. Mine is brokeoff on both ends and I am going to replace it. Thanks for your help. RayS 80 Posted January 27, 2007 46 1/4" - 46 1/2" by 5/8" diameter.
tfrazier 0 Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks Ray. I guess I should have asked for all of the specs on the roller bar. I think the cotter pin holes are 3/16" dia. 1. Where are the hole placements a long the roller bar? 2. The parts breakdown shows a busing (part # 2108419). does this bushing fit inside the end of the roller itself? Also, if the overall length of the roller bar is 46.25-46.5", wont there be quite a bit of play in roller. (Distance the roller can move back and forth). Is this normal? When I got my deck, one side of the roller bar was already sheared and the other broke shortly after I got it home so I don't remember what it is supposed to look like. RayS 80 Posted January 28, 2007 Yes, there are nylon bushings that fit inside the rollers. I use big washers between the rollers. the only place that I have cotter pins are on the ends and I have since replaced them with 5/8" shaft collars. The shaft collars you can get at TSC and Big R. The rollers will move back and forth a bit. Also check for slop between the roller and the bushing if it is bad replace the roller. Wear on these rollers is the biggest reason that you can`t get the advertised 3" of cutting height.
goatfarmer 817 Posted January 28, 2007 Tony, how much snow did you get over there? I have about 5" on the ground, a bit west of South Bend.
RayS 80 Posted January 28, 2007 We got 4" to 5" here.
tfrazier 0 Posted January 28, 2007 We've got 2 to 3" on the ground and it is still coming down (lightly). Weatherman say maybe 4" but I am holding out my hopes for more. End of the day, I'll take what I get. Ray, If I am measuring correcty (based on 46.25-46.5" bar length) I'm going to have something like .75-1" of back and forth play on the end rollers. Does that sound about right? Thanks for the shaft collar idea, I like it and I don't have to mess with drilling the shaft. Tony
RayS 80 Posted January 28, 2007 That is the lenght of the 2 or 3 that I have here. If you are going to try shaft collars you may want the 5/8" rod a little longer and you could cut off the excess after you install the rollers and shaft collars.
callwill 1 Posted January 28, 2007 You could reduce the roller end play by using collars or thicker bushings between the rollers.
acken 208 Posted January 29, 2007 I shorten the rod, and use shorter rollers on outside ends, less likely to catch shaft and bend it. This tucks the end of shaft inside the overall width of deck. Maybe I am trying to trim too close.
