WITom 0 Posted January 29, 2007 I'm a stickler about keeping my engine cool in my Sunstar as I believe the larger engines run too hot in that enclosed compartment. I refuse to run mine without the plastic air intake plenum in place, however even with it in place, there is still a couple of inches of space between the top of the plenum and the hood underside where hot air can be drawn in for "cooling" purposes. I therefore added this barrier that, when the hood is closed, fits snugly against the plenum and seals off hot air from being drawn back into the engine. All this is is 3" thick foam packing material cut about 3" deep and zip-tied to the hood support. You can see in the pic where the plenum fits against this foam barrier. It ain't real pretty, but I think it is quite effective and it can't be seen when the hood is closed anyhow. ;) I've also got an electric fan in the grill that I use in hot weather to draw heat out of the engine compartment. It is amazing how hot that air is coming through that grill on hot days! Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'm even tossing around adding an oil cooler to this engine. There is one available as a Kohler accessory - haven't checked into the cost yet.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted January 29, 2007 I know Kohker has a remote mount oil filter so you could get that and add a cooler in with the il filter.
