MarksA-C 93 Posted January 30, 2007 Looks Cool! Should be nice with the extra power and the snowblower you got! Can wait to see it done:)8D^
wminmi 0 Posted January 30, 2007 should move/work really well now.....didn't have much problem with the 7hp (except the severe rod knock) so the 12 shouldn't need to be much past low idle :D Gonna be a bit before i get it all together and fired up, awaiting a new (to me) S/G for her, then got to measure it for a belt. Then the carb gets rebuilt..... forgot to mention, also got all 4 new "shoes" on her too, complete with washer fluid in all 4 AND rear wheel weights
Roy 0 Posted January 30, 2007 Keep the pictures coming. I almost ready to start putting an 11 hp in my B-1. Did you notch the frame for the blower housing or did the frame already have the hole in it?? Carry on,
HubbardRA 19 Posted January 30, 2007 This picture was taken several years ago and isn't very good. This is my 61 Wards (Simp 700) with a 12 Hp Kohler from a Cub Cadet in it. I did not put a cut in the frame as Roy was asking about. Here it is more recently with the 14 Hp Kohler in it. Still didn't cut the frame.

Did you notch the frame for the blower housing or did the frame already have the hole in it?? Carry on, I notched my frame, in the bellypan where the fan shroud pokes through just a tad. No other notches or anything was needed. I did, however, have to drill 2 new motor mount holes on the oil fill side as they were off by like 1/4" or so. I just made sure the driveshaft lined up darn near center with the mounting plate on the engine, marked the holes, and redrilled them. easy peesy japanessy :D still likin Rod's Kohler powered Wards though....looks mean just sitting there }:)
MPH 12 Posted January 30, 2007 Cool pics of your 700 Rod. Just how'd you get the bigger engines in without notching the frame? Thought that was needed to line up the driveshaft.
HubbardRA 19 Posted January 30, 2007 I used a ball-peen hammer to move metal to produce almost enough clearance. In other words a deliberately formed dent of a semi-circular shape. The engine still would not quite sit down flush on the chassis, so I ended up putting about a 3/4 inch flat on the corner of the cooling shroud of the engine where the sharp corner once was. All this was done on the first engine before I had even seen another Simplicity. Long before I knew that a notch was supposed to be cut when using a bigger engine.
