GWGAllisfan 159 Posted February 3, 2007 Since the bolts holding the dash and dash support on the landlord are so rusty,I thought I'd replace them when I re-assemble it. I made list and bought went to TSC, but then couldn't decide if regular hardware would be OK. I suspect the grade 2 will rust fairly easily, so should I get stainless instead, just for the rust? D-17_Dave 12 Posted February 3, 2007 Any uncoated bolt will rust. It's the quality of the metal the hardware is made of that determins how fast it will rust away. Grade 5 is more than it needs but the rust won't penetrate as fast with the better metal. You can use stainless, a lot of people do to the looks of the hardware after it's all done. IMO use a grade 5, clean any oil coating off of the hardware and paint them along with the rest of the tractor.
B.Ikard 2 Posted February 4, 2007 Randy, Go with the grade 8 gold anadized stuff at TSC. 3.88/lb. Been a regular customer there lately- We keep making threats on getting together :D but need to swap notes sometime. Ever so slowly putting the finishing touches on my 914. Have not heard anything on the decal creation-should know more today. Brent
ehertzfeld 1 Posted February 4, 2007 I would use what ever your wallet will allow. Stainless bolts will add up. If your tractor is stored inside, and hardly ever gets wet, then standard bolts will be fine. They will rust, but it will be along time. Price all the different kinds, then see what you are willing to spend. That is my advice.
