Rob-B 0 Posted February 4, 2007 Prof. Herztfeld asked me to post some of my other projects I have going on.................here are a couple. This is an old signalbox from the railroad I work for. I have gutted it and I plan on turning it it into an "oven" for the powder coating that I have been doing. The electric oven I have been using just doesn't have the area now needed. I havn't decided if I'm going to disassemble the electric oven and put it into the "new" box or make new box propane fired. This was this weekends haul/project. It is on loan til June with options come that time. I have been using a little cabinet from "Tractor Supply" Worked ok but not for volume. This will take care of any tractor part that I'll ever have ^ :D 8D :p I'll post more as time moves on in "MANTOWN" Rob

Rob-B 0 Posted February 18, 2007 Well the sandblaster is all up and operational. New glass for light and veiwing, new gloves, filters, sand (dupont Starblaster) and a 40 gallon pony tank (you can see it on the floor behind the cabinet). Tomorrow the propane guy comes to take measurement on the powder coating oven I'm making for burners. I'll also finish the stand for the oven tomorrow. Rob
MPH 12 Posted February 18, 2007 Nice looking sandblastting set-up. How many CFM do you need to keep up with it? Any potential problem with fumes/mositure from propane for your powder coatting oven?
Rob-B 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Marty - No there shouldn't be. There are some VOCs but from the research I've done is very very little. Powder coating releases only a very small amount of VOCs (volatile organic compound) and only when item is actully being cured. This is becuase the powder is simply a melted polyester resin, and is no more harmful to us Humans than the disco shirts and slacks they use to wear in the 1970's. The exposure to to powder coating VOCs in a full time 5 year period would equal to the painting of a rear wheel off our large frame tractors with 1 can of spray paint. Cure time in the oven is 20-25 minutes at 385 to 450 degrees depend on type of powder used. I hope this was the answer to your question or helped with it. If not will try again hey. Let me know.
