PowerMax CCKB and Railroad Speeder Cars

I just joined the forum. Great bunch of folks, I say. I found a 1979 powermax locally in CT. 1300 hours. Bucket. Mower. Decent shape. Wants $3800. Too rich, I say. Anyway, here is the question: I've read all of the CCKB info enough to know parts and/or replacement is an issue. Did the replacement discussions ever finish? They are: http://www.simpletractors.com/clubhouse/ShowMessage.asp?MsgID=123&mode=short&startwith=0 I also found that railroad cars called speeders used the CCKB. Parts seem to be available. Is it the same? Check out: http://www.brownrr.com/parts/onan.html and http://www.narcoa.org/ (ads for CCKBs once in a while) I've found filters, etc etc this way, but not sure if its the same. If we have the same problem as the railroaders, maybe somebody could contact 'em? Thanks much. Not sure if I want the tractor if I can't get parts reasonably. Thanks. Paul

Parts are pricey for the CCKB, but you'll find that with any engine Kohler/Briggs/Onan that's 20 years old. I just purchased Fram filters at a farm store for about $3 each, so maintenance parts are still not too bad. I've purchased points, plugs, condensers at reasonable prices. Actual engine parts are a different story. Starters, Alternators & Carbs are expensive. I have three tractors with CCKB engines. I can't tell you what that tractor is worth to you, but I wouldn't trade my powermax tractors for any new L&G tractors on the market. To me, his price is on the high end, even with the loader. In good running condition, I'm sure it is worth at least $3200 though. Hope that helps, Happy Holidays Paul
