HELP!!! blew my rearend ...2010 landlord

Recommended Posts

B)well my rough 1000' driveway took down another tractor. this will make number 4 for major breakdowns in the past 5yrs. {the others where cheaper models-throw aways}. i was pushing my first real snow last night and WOW do theese litttle buggers push. i went out to finish today and while i was backing up the tractor it just stopped:(. all pulleys are turning{bgb is good}but the tractor wont move when put in gear. if i try and put it in gear without the clutch it will grind, so i didnt force it. what do you'all think happen?, and how difficult is it to tear into the rearend. i also have the 8hp wheel horse, but i need the landlord for the heavy stuff.

Is it possible that you maybe snapped an axle, or similar?

Check your differential . You could have snapped a gear or a key.

Perry ~ not to hijack your thread or anything, but if you end up needing a rearend, let me know, i have a spare just sitting here gathering dust. Never ran it myself, was going to hold onto it for a spare and/or rebuild it for future use, but if you can use it, it's yours. FWIW, i'm in South Haven, Michigan, 49090.....dead nuts on Lake Michigan

You it grinds without the clutch, does it grind if you step the clutch in? First thing I'd check is the tranny input pulley, make sure the saft is turning too, maybe you sheared the key on that shaft, if your lucky.

My B10 did the same thing yesterday, the 2 half moon keys on the gear for the limited slip sheared. All the same simptoms as yours.

i sure hope thats it. i always jump the gun and think of the worst. it dosent grind when clutch is depress, and the keyway in the pulley is good. i herd NO noise when it happen, and it doesent make any noise when i push it while its in gear. i was too cold to mess with it after a couple of hours plowin with the horse. ill have to fit it in this weekend along with my new woodstove project. it never ends does it. well atleast i will be able to get some garage time :D. i havent been out there in about a month.

Perry, Again Exactly the same as your describing, luckily I had a spare set of keys handy. (Thanks John). Took about an hour and back in action. If you have a different problem though I would be curious what it is. Brian

hey mat, what kind of car/truck is it?. rear ends are usauly pretty easy to change out and you should be able to find a used one pretty cheap or free. just make sure you buy new mounting hardware{u-bolts} and probaly some brake lines witch are cheap also. just a thought

?$A $350 used snow blower will save a lot of mechanical headaches and money in the long run from BGB on back.

Hi, The first thing I would check is the axle tube turning when it is in gear and won't go. Next I would look at the collar on the outside of the right wheel. If this collar is loose or gone, it lets the right hub slide out of the differential gears. The collar on the left side being loose can cause the same problem If the axle tube turns when in gear and the differential case in the right wheel doesn't you likely have a broken axle tube. Good luck, Al Eden
