Oil Drain Flex-hose question.....

Recommended Posts

LesH
Has anyone used a rubber hose for the oil drain on an engine with a valve on the end to make it a lot more easy to get to??

I just put about an 1 or 1 1/2 pipe nipple into the base and use a pipe cap on the end, drain right into a 3 lb coffee can, no mess, no fuss. Somehow a rubber hose scares me.

:I The new Kohlers come with a piece of clear tubing just for that purpose. It's about 8 inches long and works great. (23 Horse on a ummmmm Cub).

If I remember correctly, our Simplicity ZT has a rubber hose with a pipe plug fitting on the end.It lays beside the engine on the frame.

Bought an after market valve to replace the oem crankcase plug. It has the same clear tubing that my newer riding mower uses. Sure makes it easy to drain oil out. Got this valve off eBay but have seen them in the small engine dept of auto parts stores. Dan aka IronPony

Install drain valve on the block and then attach the hose. Going the other way is inviting trouble. There's a chance that you could knock off hose and the drain valve on the far end won't do anything but let the oil run out.

Yep, I agree with BLT. Valve then hose. Valve at the end of the hose is trouble waiting to happen.
