bluecap24 0 Posted March 12, 2007 What is the difference between the KT series Kohler engines and the Magnum series? Both have the bolt on jugs and aluminum crankases right? Thanks, Jim
RayS 79 Posted March 12, 2007 I know that the KT is battery ignition and that the Magnum is a magneto with electronic. I know at least some of the Magnums were pressure lubricated if not all of them.
PatRarick 1 Posted March 12, 2007 Basically, sheet metal and ignitions systems are the only differences. Yes, the KT engines used aluminum crankcases and cast iron cylinders.
bluecap24 0 Posted March 12, 2007 So which is the better motor? Mine is pressure lubricated.
BruceH 6 Posted March 12, 2007 I believe electronic ignition is supposed to be superior. I have both engines (KT Series II and Magnum) and have not had ignition problems with either one. The KT engines were sold in 2 series, Series I was was splash lubricated and there were issues with operating these engines on hills and oil starvation. The Series II engines were "pressurized" to eliminate this issue. The Magnums continued to use this approach with the ignition differences noted earlier.
