728 tranny and carb ?

Hey everybody. I have a couple questions for you all today. First is that I need to take my transmission out but is there a way that I could do that without taking the engine off? Second question is about my carb. My engine runs fine at low rpms, no sputtering and stuff like that, but when I put it into a higher rpm it begins to sputter every two seconds.sm00 I assume that this is a internal problem but just wanna make sure it isn't an adjustment problem.
