MPH 12 Posted March 17, 2007 Pulled the axle on the 725 tonight to replace the seals and found a bit different animal. Are B-1's this way too? two gears on the axle, one turns with the right hub, the inner one is keyed to the axle Do B-1's also have the short axle tube like this on the left side? Think this whole rear end is the same as the one used in the Model W walkbehinds with the shift rod coming out the oppiste end. Almost tempted to dig that one out I have. PatRarick 1 Posted March 17, 2007 Never had my B-1 apart to see what the gears are like, but mine does have the short axle tube.

UCD 14 Posted March 17, 2007 The 700's/725's were a two wheel waking tractor transmissions with a seat' steering wheel and front wheels added. Simplicity had the back half and just removed the handle bars and added a front half.
HubbardRA 19 Posted March 20, 2007 Marty, That axle, hubs, and diff are directly interchangable with the newer model limited slip units, as long as you change the entire diff and axle assembly. I have one in my 61 Wards (Simp 700). The only difference that I have seen between the older tranny units and the newer units is that the left side tube is several inches longer on the newer units. This puts the outer bearing closer to the hub to reduce the bending stress on the axle itself. With the welded on left hub, you can no longer pull the axle out the right side. With that type you must remove the gears and snap ring from the axle and take it out the left side.
