Allis Clutch

Let me start by saying that I just joined
3-21-99 and it's good to know others share my
intrest in these tractors. I have an Allis
Chalmers 410 that I bought about two years ago.
After rebuilding the engine, I discovered that
the electric pto clutch was bad. I went to my
local Agco dealer and ordered one. The dealer
tried for eight monthes to locate a clutch with
no results. This is a Lexington built unit and
will not cross with any simplicity tractor (so I
am told). Any suggestions on where to look?

Ray, While I'm not specifically familiar with the 400 series (I'm a Simplicity guy), I only know of one or two manufacturers of these clutches. The one that comes to mind is Warner Electric (was or is part of Borg-Warner, I think). Unless it is very different from others on many brands of tractor, I would think that a clutch from something would fit or be adaptable, as the engine mounting is standardized. Perhaps showing it to other brands' dealers in your area might provoke a "... that looks like a" response. I can't recall if we have a current Agco or former Allis dealer residing here to give a more definative answer, but I would think that most Agco dealers would be more familiar with the farm tractors and would not necessarily have much exposure to other brands of garden tractor.
Good luck, Fred Olsen
