a little find at the local scrap yard (update)

I went to my local scrap yard today to take in some scrap copper and I thought I saw some Simplicity orange out of the corner of my eye. What I saw was an old snowblower in pieces. The only parts there were the auger and the transmission/drive. Upon closer inspection something appeared rather familiar to me. the trans looked exactly like a Broadmoor transmission. I asked how much for the trans and they said $5. No problem. Here is what I got. There are some differences. No brake or pto shaft sticking out of the left side. Also, the axles are different but I think that some of the gears will be the same. I'm guessing it is like a posi though. I will probably take it apart tomorrow.

Not sure what model snowblower it was but if it ends up that some parts are interchangeable then I will be looking for more of these. Okay, I took it apart today. The high/low is just a low drive. Same size as the high/low on the Broadmoor. The axles are much smaller, but the differential gears are the same as well as the other gears. I just happen to have a trans that needs a new bolt and pinion gear so I can fix that one. I also have another trans that one of the gears is quite worn. The one from the snowblower is perfect. Only thing is that I think they are pressed on. The manual shows the gear held in place by a dowel pin through the shaft. Has anyone tried removing one of these gears? Broadmoor trans

That looks like a high-low setup hiding in there?

Good buy - is it a 2 or 3 speed? The early Broadmoor 2 speeds did not have a PTO output. The 3 speeds got that, however I have a 2 speed modified with factory parts to have gotten the PTO. The blower transmissions are different in a number of way, but would probably still bolt into a tractor. That is a lo-range unit. Can't remember if it exactly like a tractor one though. The blowers were always in lo-range so to speak to get them to go slow enough to walk behind them. Good for parts! Tim

Looks kind of like its off an 810GT, regent style tractor, don't think they ever came with Hi-Lo. Didn't notice that is was mentioned as being on a blower:o).
